Where is your place in the world? What makes you different and the same?
Your Story by Design 4 Purpose
Designers have the power to change how the world works through design. The problem is there are so many challenges to contend with, it can be hard to decide which one to focus on and where to start. It can seem overwhelming when we are on our own.
I want to use my experience building a social innovation event like Hack Access which was centred on designing a more accessible & inclusive built environment, and the lesson I learned to help designers find their purpose and realise it.
There are many ways to build something but only one way to make an impact.
Building anything impactful in the world, be it a house or a structure of commerce, culture or care. A product that helps us with function or experience. Or something technological or invisible, like a service that facilitates something important in our lives or something as simple as moving from a to b, requires collaboration. No-one solves the challenges in the way of impact, alone; we are stronger - better - when we work together. When a community bound by a shared purpose works as one unit focused on the same goal.
But, before we build with. We need to build within as impact is built upon a foundation of our own individual purpose.
You can only find your community when you know yourself from the inside out; what are the internal drivers motivating you to succeed? Can you define your values and your strengths; the things that make you who you are? How well do you work with others? Do you know the things that can trigger upset? Are you self aware about what you need to do to build resilience?
Converting skill, passion and purpose (the problems you care about solving) into impact as an entrepreneur or employee requires authenticity, confidence, empathy and emotional regulation to form the strong relationships community formation & collaboration requires.
